St Thomas Bay is a broad shallow inlet south of Marsascala, with a short strip of sand at one end and long stretches of flat rock and boathouses around the rest. It is used mainly by Maltese families and by divers, who go out from here to the wreck sites offshore, and the shallow water suits children. Above the bay stands St Thomas Tower, a large fortified building of 1614 put up after a raid on the area.

When to go
May to October for swimming. Summer weekends fill the bay with local families. Winter storms rearrange the sand and the shoreline.
Honest expectations
The sand strip is small and much of the shore is rock and concrete. Development around the bay is untidy. St Thomas Tower is not generally open to visitors.
