Adrasan

Adrasan sits in a crescent bay between two forested headlands, with the Taurus rising steeply behind and a stream coming down to the sea at one end. It is a family-holiday bay rather than a resort strip: a couple of kilometres of coarse sand and pebble, low-rise pensions and small hotels along the road behind, fish restaurants, and a beach that stays comparatively calm because the headlands shelter it. Boat trips leave for Suluada and the coves along the coast. The Lycian Way passes through, and the walk south from here over Cape Gelidonya to the lighthouse - a few hours each way over a rocky headland with the Beş Adalar islands offshore - is one of the better day sections of the whole trail. Diving operators work the bay. Out of season much of it closes, and in August it fills with Turkish families rather than foreign package tourists, which gives it a different feel from Kemer up the coast.

When to go

May to June and September to October. August is busy with domestic holidaymakers; winter closes most pensions and restaurants.

Honest expectations

The beach is coarse sand and pebble, not fine sand. There is little nightlife or shopping - this is a quiet bay. The Gelidonya walk is exposed, rocky and needs water and an early start.

Olympos and Çıralı are north; Suluada lies offshore and Phaselis is up the coast.
