St Peter's Pool

St Peter's Pool is a natural inlet in the flat limestone shelf near Delimara Point, where the rock has been worn into a sheltered basin of very clear deep water with smooth ledges around it. There is no sand and no facility; people swim from the rock, jump from the ledges, and lie on the limestone. It has become one of the most photographed swimming spots on Malta and the small parking area is entirely inadequate in season.

• The ledges - smooth rock shelves used for sunbathing and jumping.
• The clarity - visibility good enough to see the bottom across the pool.
• The Delimara coast - the flat limestone shore running out to the point.

When to go

May to October for swimming; the water is warmest in late summer. Early morning avoids the crowds and the worst of the parking. Winter swell makes it dangerous.

Honest expectations

There is no shade, no water and no facilities. Getting out of the water needs a fixed ladder and the rock is slippery. Parking is very limited and the access road is rough.
