Xrobb l-Ghagin Nature Park

Xrobb l-Għaġin occupies a headland southeast of Marsaxlokk that was used as a military site and then left derelict, and it has been restored as a nature park with native planting, walking paths and a sustainable development centre in the former buildings. The clifftop carries garrigue and steppe vegetation, and the remains of a megalithic temple sit near the edge, much of it lost to cliff collapse over the centuries.

What you actually see

• The cliffs - the southeastern coast with views back to Marsaxlokk.

When to go

October to May is best; the headland is exposed and summer heat is severe. Spring is good for flowers on the garrigue. Winds off the sea are strong in winter.

Honest expectations

The temple remains are fragmentary and easy to miss. There is no shade and no water on the headland. The park facilities are limited and the centre keeps irregular hours.
