Lang Tengah Island

Lang Tengah sits in the water between the Perhentian islands and Redang and has ended up much quieter than either, mainly because it is small, has only a handful of resorts and no village at all - so there is no independent accommodation, no strip of bars and nothing to walk to. The reef around it is in reasonable condition and the house reefs off the beaches are good enough that many guests barely take a boat, though the dive sites off the outlying rocks are the better option. A small turtle hatchery on the island collects and incubates green turtle eggs from the surrounding beaches, and releases are sometimes open to guests. The forest interior has monitor lizards and plenty of birds. Like the whole coast it shuts entirely for the north-east monsoon.

Honest expectations

You must book a resort; there is no other way to stay and prices reflect the monopoly. Everything is charged on the island. Closed roughly November to February. Coral has bleached in places.
