Bukit Keluang

Bukit Keluang is a rocky headland rising out of the beach on the Terengganu coast just south of Kuala Besut, the jetty town for the Perhentians, and it does two things. A timber boardwalk runs along the base of the cliff at sea level to a set of caves worn into the rock by the waves, which can be walked into at low tide. And a steep stair and path climbs the hill through scrub to a viewpoint at the top, looking north up the coast and out to the Perhentians on a clear day. The beach below is long and empty and mostly used by people from Besut. It is a short outing rather than a destination, and it makes an obvious way to fill a morning while waiting for a boat out to the islands.

March to October; the monsoon closes it. Half a day.

Before you go

The boardwalk has been damaged and closed by storms in the past - check it is open. The climb is steep and fully exposed. Caves are only accessible around low tide.
