Ourdall Promenade

The Ourdall Promenade follows the Our upstream from Vianden along the German border, a level route of around twenty kilometres on old tracks and paths through wooded valley with meadows, weirs and small villages along the way. The river forms the frontier, so bridges cross between countries at several points. It is one of the easier long walks in Luxembourg, mostly flat, and can be broken into sections with bus links back. The Our valley was heavily fought over in the winter of 1944 and several villages along it were destroyed and rebuilt, which is why the architecture is newer than the setting suggests.

When to go

April to October is the walking season. Autumn colour along the valley is good. Winter can be muddy and cold.

Honest expectations

The route is long and transport back needs planning; bus services are infrequent. Sections can be muddy. There are few facilities between villages.
