The Mutla ridge runs above Kuwait Bay north of Al Jahra, a low escarpment of around a hundred and forty metres that counts as high ground in a country almost entirely flat, and from the top the bay, the city and the desert running north are all visible. In spring after rain the slopes green up and desert flowers come out, which draws Kuwaiti families out to camp and picnic.

What you actually see

  • The escarpment - around a hundred and forty metres, the country's high ground.
  • The bay view - Kuwait Bay and the city from the ridge top.
  • The spring flowering - the desert bloom on the slopes after winter rain.
  • The camping - families out on the ridge in the cool months.

When to go

November to March is the cool season; spring flowering follows winter rain. Summer heat is extreme. Weekends bring campers in numbers.

Honest expectations

Litter from camping is a serious problem on the ridge. It is a modest rise rather than a real hill. There are no facilities.

Nearby

Al Jahra is south, and Sabah Al-Ahmad reserve is north.
