Albert Town

Albert Town sits on the edge of Cockpit Country, the limestone karst of conical hills and sinkholes that covers much of central Jamaica, and a community tourism association here runs guided caving, hiking and farm visits into it. The town is best known nationally for the Trelawny Yam Festival at Easter, a agricultural show with yam-growing competitions, food and music that draws people from across the island.

When to go

December to April is the drier season and the best for caving and walking. Easter is the festival and the busiest week by far. Heavy rain floods the cave systems.

Honest expectations

There is little in the town itself outside festival time. Guided trips must be arranged in advance through the community association. The roads in are narrow and rough.
