Foss a Sidu

Foss a Sidu drops off a cliff behind the farm of the same name, a thin fall of around thirty metres that is one of the most photographed roadside sights on the south coast simply because it is framed by the farm buildings and the cliff and needs no walk. In strong southerly wind, which is common here, the water is caught before it reaches the bottom and blown back up over the rim, a thing visitors are often told about and rarely time right. The cliff it comes over is the same escarpment that produced the columns at Dverghamrar a few minutes west. The farm is a working one and the land around the fall is private.

When to go

May to September for light; visible from the road all year. Half an hour.

Before you go

The upward-blowing effect needs a gale and most visits do not get one. The layby is small and people stop badly on a fast road. You cannot approach the base without permission. In dry spells the flow thins to a trickle.
