Hajduszoboszlo Spa Complex
One of the largest bath and water park complexes in Hungary, built on a brown mineral thermal spring on the eastern plain.

Hot water was found here in the 1920s while drilling for something else, and the town rebuilt itself around it. The result is a very large complex on one site, combining thermal pools for treatment, a conventional swimming and beach bath with lawns and shallow pools, and a separate water park with slides and family attractions. The thermal water is brown, iodine-rich and strongly mineral, and much of the clientele is here for a course of treatment rather than a day out. The town around the complex is given over almost entirely to the spa economy, with guesthouses, pharmacies and rehabilitation clinics. Scale is the point: on a hot summer weekend the site holds thousands of people without feeling full.
What you actually see
- The thermal pools - brown mineral water at treatment temperatures, indoors and out.
- The beach bath - large open-air swimming and shallow pools with lawns for summer.
- The water park - slides, wave and family attractions on a separate ticket.
- The spa town layout - a whole settlement built around the springs and rehabilitation.
When to go
June to August for the full site with all outdoor sections open. The thermal and indoor parts operate year-round and are much quieter from October to April, which suits anyone actually coming for the water. Weekends and school holidays are heavy. Sections open and close on their own seasonal schedules, so check which parts are running before buying.
Honest expectations
This is a large, functional leisure operation rather than a beautiful historic bath, with concrete, plastic and crowds to match. Sections are ticketed separately and a family day adds up quickly. The mineral water stains swimwear and has a strong smell that some people dislike. Summer queues for the main slides are long. The town itself has little to offer beyond the complex.
Nearby
Debrecen is twenty minutes east by train, with the Hortobagy puszta to the west.
