Santa Lucia

Santa Lucía clings to a slope above the capital, a village of narrow cobbled lanes, whitewashed houses and bougainvillea, founded on silver in the sixteenth century. The church holds a Christ figure said to have been sent by Philip II of Spain, and the village's other feature is its nurseries: the cool damp climate suits flowers, and plant sellers line the road in. There is a small lagoon below the village and a view over Tegucigalpa from the upper streets.

When to go

November to April is the driest. Weekends bring visitors from the capital. The village is cool at this altitude and can be damp and misty in the afternoons.

Good to know

The village is small and an hour or two covers it. Streets are steep and cobbled and hard walking. There is little to do beyond looking and eating.

Nearby

Valle de Angeles is further along the road, and Tegucigalpa is fifteen minutes west.
