Anse d'Azur

Anse d'Azur is a short curve of pale sand and clear water just outside Jérémie, backed by cliff and scrub, with a cave at the western end that goes back far enough to need a torch. The water is calm and clear enough to snorkel, there is coral in the shallows, and on most days there is nobody there. It is the beach for Jérémie, which means it fills on Sundays and is otherwise empty.

• The cliffs - low rock and scrub closing the bay at both ends.

When to go

November to March is driest and calmest. Sundays bring people from Jeremie; weekdays are usually empty. Hurricane season from June to November affects this coast directly.

Honest expectations

There are no facilities: no shade beyond the trees, no drinks, no lifeguard. The cave is dark and unlit and needs a torch and care. Jeremie itself is a long and rough journey from Port-au-Prince, which is why so few people come.
