Cobo Bay

Cobo is a wide west coast bay where the granite is a distinct warm pink, breaking through the sand in outcrops and running along the shore, and because it faces west it is where the island goes to watch the sun go down. There is a beach kiosk, a hotel and a pub across the road, and the bay is shallow with plenty of sand at low tide. Guernsey granite of this colour was quarried commercially and shipped to London, where it went into kerbstones and steps still in place today.

When to go

May to September is the season with facilities open. Sunset is the reason most people come, latest around midsummer. Winter storms cover the road with weed and stone.

Honest expectations

The bay is exposed and windy on most days. Currents on the ebb are strong. Parking along the road fills on summer evenings.
