Sella Bay on Guam's southwestern coast has no road to it and is reached on a trail that drops off the ridge through open savanna and then follows a valley to the shore, taking around ninety minutes each way with no shade for most of it. A small Spanish arched bridge stands on the route, built to carry the old coastal road. The bay itself is stony with reef offshore and nobody there.

What you actually see

  • The Spanish bridge - the small arched crossing on the old coastal route.
  • The savanna descent - the exposed trail down off the ridge.
  • The empty bay - a shore with no road and no development.
  • The reef - the coral offshore in the bay.

When to go

December to June is the drier season and the trail is firmer. Start early: there is no shade and the heat builds fast. The trail is slippery and dangerous after rain.

Honest expectations

The hike is hot, exposed and steeper than it looks, and people get into trouble on it. There is no water on the route and it must all be carried. Currents in the bay are strong.

Nearby

Cetti Bay is south, and Taleyfac is north.
