Sofaïa sits on the slope above Sainte-Rose in the north of Basse-Terre, where a sulphur spring has been piped into an open shower that people stand under for its supposed effect on the skin, in a clearing at the edge of the forest. The view from the site runs down over the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin, the lagoon and mangrove system on the northern coast, with the islets scattered across it. A forest trail starts here.
