Cascade aux Ecrevisses

The Cascade aux Écrevisses drops a few metres into a pool on the Corossol river, five minutes on a paved path from a car park on the Route de la Traversée, which makes it the most accessible waterfall on the island and the busiest. The pool is used for swimming and the forest around it is proper rainforest, dense and dripping. The crayfish the name refers to still live in the stream.

When to go

December to April is the driest. Early morning avoids the crowds. After heavy rain the river rises fast and the pool is dangerous.

Honest expectations

It is very crowded through the middle of the day and coach parties arrive together. The river rises quickly after rain upstream. The fall is small and the visit brief.
