Saut de la Lezarde

The Saut de la Lézarde drops about ten metres into a wide green pool in the forest above Petit-Bourg, reached by a walk of around twenty minutes down a muddy path from a small car park. The pool is deep enough to swim in and is a popular local spot at weekends. The path is steep in places and roots and mud make it slippery, which catches out visitors who expect a paved trail.

What you actually see

• The fall - a drop of around ten metres into a broad pool.
• The green pool - deep water below the fall used for swimming.
• The forest path - a steep muddy route down from the road.
• The river - the Lezarde running through the forest below.

When to go

December to April is the driest and safest. After heavy rain the river rises fast and the pool becomes dangerous. Weekends are busy with local families.

Honest expectations

The path is genuinely muddy and slippery and proper shoes matter. Flash flooding after rain upstream has caused deaths on Guadeloupean rivers. There are no facilities or supervision.
