The Saut d'Acomat drops about ten metres into a broad pool on the western side of Basse-Terre above Pointe Noire, in a bowl of rock and forest reached by a short but steep and slippery scramble from the end of a narrow road. The pool is wide and deep and is one of the better river swimming places on the island, which makes it busy at weekends. A rope helps on the steepest part of the descent.

When to go
December to April is the driest and safest. The river rises fast after rain. Weekends bring crowds.

The descent is steep, muddy and genuinely slippery; the rope is needed. The river rises quickly after rain upstream. There are no facilities and no supervision.
