Plaka Milos

Plaka is the capital of Milos, a small hilltop town of white houses and narrow lanes with a Venetian castle on the rock above it, reached by a stepped path that takes fifteen minutes. From the top the whole of the Milos bay lies below, one of the largest natural harbours in the Aegean, and the sunset from up there is what fills the lanes in the evening.

When to go

May to October is the season. Sunset is when the castle path is busiest. Many places close for the winter.

Honest expectations

The lanes are stepped and narrow and parking below fills up completely at sunset. The castle climb is short but steep. Almost everything shuts outside the summer season.

Nearby

Adamas is below, and Sarakiniko is northeast. The catacombs and the ancient theatre of Milos sit just downhill toward Tripiti.
