Getting thereSouthwest Lefkada; boat from Nydri or Vasiliki, or a rebuilt stair path from the road above
EntryFree; boat fares apply

Egremni runs for several hundred metres of pale pebble and sand at the foot of cliffs on the exposed western side of Lefkada, with water that reads bright turquoise against the white stone. Until 2015 visitors descended a stairway of some 350 steps cut into the cliff; the November earthquake of that year triggered landslides that buried the stair and closed the beach from above for years. Access since has been mainly by boat from Nydri, Vasiliki and Porto Katsiki, with a reopened path from above operating intermittently as the cliff is stabilised. The beach has no facilities of any kind, no shade, no water and no lifeguard, and the west coast swell can be strong, which is part of why it stays wilder than the island's other famous beaches.

What you actually see

  • The cliff wall - the high white face above the length of the beach.
  • The turquoise water - deep clear sea against pale pebble.
  • The boat approach - the classic arrival from the sea in season.
  • The landslide scars - visible damage from the 2015 earthquake.

When to go

June to September, when boats run and the sea is calm enough for landings; the west coast is exposed and trips are cancelled in wind. Afternoons bring the best light on the cliff.

Honest expectations

Access is genuinely uncertain: the stair route has opened and closed repeatedly since the earthquake, and boats depend on the sea. There are no facilities at all, so bring water, food and shade. Rockfall risk near the cliff base is real.

Nearby

Porto Katsiki lies south along the same coast; Vasiliki and its windsurfing bay are around the point.
