Athens Planetarium

The planetarium on Syngrou Avenue is part of the Eugenides Foundation and has one of the larger dome theatres in Europe, showing astronomy programmes and large-format documentaries on a hemispherical screen with reclining seats under it. Programmes run in Greek with headset translation available for some. It is an indoor option in a city where most of the attractions are outdoors.

When to go

Programmes run year round. Summer is when an air-conditioned indoor stop is most welcome. Sessions are scheduled rather than continuous.

Honest expectations

Most programmes are in Greek and translation is not always available. It is out on Syngrou and awkward to reach without a taxi. Session times are fixed and turning up without checking usually means waiting.

Nearby

The Onassis Centre is nearby, and central Athens is north. The coastal tram toward Faliro also stops within walking distance of Syngrou.
