Evinayong

Evinayong sits on high ground in the middle of Río Muni at around six hundred metres, which makes it noticeably cooler than the coast, and it is the provincial capital of Centro Sur with a market, a cathedral and views out over forested hills in every direction. The town is quiet and the surrounding country is where the inselbergs and the interior forest are. Cocoa and cassava are grown around it. The town sits roughly at the centre of the mainland province, which is why it became the administrative seat rather than anywhere on the coast.

When to go

December to February is the drier season and the roads are best. The long rains make the drive slow. Market days are busiest.

Honest expectations

There is little arranged for visitors and facilities are basic. The drive from Bata takes around three hours. Photography restrictions apply and should be respected.
