Ebebiyín

Ebebiyín sits at the northeastern corner of Río Muni where the borders with Cameroon and Gabon meet, which makes it a trading town with goods, currencies and languages crossing constantly, and it is the third largest settlement in the country. A cathedral stands at its centre and the market draws people from all three sides. The forest of the northeastern interior surrounds it. The town's name is Fang, the language spoken across the mainland and across the borders into both neighbouring countries. Its position has made it the main overland gateway into the country from the east.

When to go

December to February is the drier season and the roads are best. The long rains make the drive from Bata slow. Market days are busiest.

The drive from Bata takes around five hours. Carry identification throughout the border region. Photography needs care and permits are required for many subjects.
