Zongo Falls

A hundred-odd kilometres from Kinshasa's noise, the Inkisi river steps off a rainforest ledge in the Zongo falls - some sixty-five metres of curtain throwing permanent mist across a gorge green enough to glow, rainbows forming and dissolving in the spray on schedule. The site's lodge and viewpoints make it the capital's classic escape: stair paths descend to the thunder's foot, monkeys work the canopy, and the overnight version adds the falls at dawn without the day-trip clock. The road's final stretch is rough enough to keep the crowds honest.
