Cueva Fun Fun

Cueva Fun Fun is one of the larger cave systems in the Caribbean, in the hills of Hato Mayor, and reaching it means a ride and walk in through forest and then a rappel of around twenty metres down a vertical entrance shaft. Inside, a river runs through passages that are waded and swum, past formations and Taíno pictographs. The whole trip takes most of a day and is run by a single operator with the local community.

What you actually see

When to go

November to April is drier and the cave is safest. Rain floods the passages and trips are cancelled. Bookings are needed well ahead.

The rappel entrance rules this out for anyone uneasy with heights or with limited mobility. The cave floods after heavy rain and trips are cancelled. It is a full day and physically demanding.
