Wavine Cyrique

Wavine Cyrique is a fall that comes over the cliff and lands directly on a black sand beach on the Atlantic coast, so that the fresh water runs across the sand into the surf, and the combination is the reason people attempt what is one of the harder descents on the island: a near-vertical drop down the cliff using fixed ropes, roots and cut steps. Storm damage has repeatedly destroyed the route and it has been closed for long periods.

When to go

December to April is drier and the descent is safest. The route is often closed after storms and should be checked before travelling. Rain makes it dangerous.

Practical notes

This is a genuinely dangerous descent and people have been seriously injured; a guide is required and fitness matters. The route has been destroyed and rebuilt several times and may be closed. Atlantic surf here is not swimmable.
