Toucari is a small fishing village on a sheltered bay in the far northwest, past Cabrits, with a short beach, boats pulled up on it and reef close enough to swim to from shore. It is one of the better shore snorkelling spots on the island and dive operations from Portsmouth work the site. A caves area at the northern end of the bay is reached by boat. The village is quiet and almost nothing is set up for visitors.

What you actually see

  • The shore reef - coral within easy swimming distance of the beach.
  • The fishing village - boats and a working shore with little development.
  • The caves - the rock formations at the north end reached by boat.
  • The sheltered bay - calm water on the Caribbean side of the island.

When to go

December to April is calmest for snorkelling. Winter northerly swell can stir the water. Mornings are clearest.

Honest expectations

There are almost no facilities in the village. The beach is small and stony in places. Boat trips to the caves must be arranged with local fishermen rather than booked.

Nearby

Cabrits National Park is south, and Portsmouth is beyond it.
