Jesperhus Flower Park

Jesperhus started as a market garden and grew into what is generally described as the largest flower park in northern Europe, with something like half a million bedding plants set out each year across formal beds, themed gardens and topiary figures, most of it replanted annually to a new design. Around the planting the site has expanded into a general family attraction with a butterfly house, an aquarium, a small zoo with birds and reptiles, a minigolf course, an indoor water park and a large holiday village of cabins, so it functions as much as a holiday resort as a garden. The flower displays peak from June to August, and the site puts on illuminated evenings in late summer.

When to go

May to September, with the flower display at its best from late June to August. Half a day. Danish school holidays are the busiest weeks. Illuminated evenings run in late summer.

Practical notes

It is a commercial family attraction rather than a botanical garden, and the planting is bedding schemes rather than a collection. Ticket prices are high. The added attractions vary in quality. Outside the flowering season much of the point is lost.
