Djurs Sommerland is the largest of the Danish summer lands, laid out across former farmland at Nimtofte in the middle of Djursland. One ticket covers everything, including the water park, which is why families make a full day of it. The ride list is strong for a country of this size, with several large roller coasters, among them the launched Juvelen and the older Piraten, alongside a big block of family rides, a western-themed area and go-karts. The water park has slides and pools and is included in the same entry. The park is seasonal: it opens in spring, runs at full tilt through the Danish summer holidays and closes in autumn.
What you actually see
- The roller coasters - several large rides, including the launched Juvelen and the older Piraten.
- The water park - slides and pools covered by the same ticket.
- The family areas - a large block of gentler rides aimed at small children.
- The western section and go-karts - the older themed part of the park.
When to go
The park runs from spring to autumn but only opens daily and until late in the Danish summer holidays, roughly late June to mid August, which is also the most crowded stretch of the year. May and weekdays in June give much shorter queues. Everything is outdoors, so check the forecast before committing to a full day.
Honest expectations
Queues in the peak weeks are long and the popular coasters can take an hour. The ticket is expensive, food inside more so, and the park sits far from any town, which means a car and a long drive for most people. Rain ruins the day, since there is almost no indoor space. Off-season opening days are patchy and easy to get wrong.
Nearby
Ebeltoft and Mols Bjerge are half an hour south; Grenaa and the Kattegat coast lie east.
