Camp Adventure Forest Tower

The Forest Tower stands in the Gisselfeld estate woods on south Zealand, about an hour from Copenhagen. It opened in 2019 and is 45 metres tall, built as a steel hourglass that narrows at the middle and flares out at the top, with a continuous timber ramp spiralling up the inside so there are no steps at all. That makes the platform reachable with a pushchair or a wheelchair, although the climb is long. An elevated boardwalk leads to it through the trees, crossing wet ground and a small lake on the way, and from the top the view runs over unbroken forest to the fields and, on clear days, a long way across the island.

What you actually see

• The treetop boardwalk - an elevated walkway approaching the tower through the canopy.
• The view - forest in every direction and a long look across south Zealand.
• The forest floor - marked trails and a climbing park in the same woods.

When to go

April to October for full opening; hours shrink in winter and the tower closes in high wind. Weekday mornings are the calm slot. Clear days matter, because the whole point of the structure is the view. The seasonal bus from Copenhagen makes it possible without a car but ties you to fixed departure times.

Honest expectations

It is a single structure, and once you have walked up and down there is not a great deal else, which makes the ticket look expensive. The ramp is long, several hundred metres of walking to reach the top, and the tower moves slightly in wind. It shuts in storms. Timed slots sell out on summer weekends, and parking is charged and limited.
