Valpovo Manor

Valpovo shows two periods in one building: a medieval fortress stood here on the edge of the marshes, and after the Ottoman withdrawal the Prandau family, granted the estate in 1721, built a baroque manor onto and around it, so the old tower and sections of wall are absorbed into the later wings. The complex passed to the Normann family by marriage. It stands in a large park with old trees, and the buildings now hold the Valpovo town museum with the estate's own furnishings, documents and a collection on the region. The chapel in the courtyard is part of the same overlay of periods.

Honest expectations

Parts of the complex have needed restoration and have been closed at times. The museum is a modest local collection. Valpovo is a small town with limited services. English labelling is thin.
