Te Amo Beach

Te Amo is a narrow strip of coral sand and shade trees on the coast road just south of Bonaire's airport, and two things happen there: reef starts a short swim out with good snorkelling on it, and aircraft come in low overhead on final approach. Locals set up under the trees at weekends. The water is calm on this leeward side almost every day of the year. The strip runs for several hundred metres and there is usually space even when cars are parked along it.

• The shade trees - the stand along the back of the narrow beach.
• The calm water - leeward conditions almost every day.

When to go

Year round on the sheltered west coast. Weekends bring local crowds. Aircraft movements are few, so plane-watching means waiting.

Honest expectations

The beach is narrow and coral rather than soft sand, and shoes help. There are no facilities and parking is roadside. The nature fee applies to anyone entering the water.
