Low Bay is the strip of sand that separates the Codrington lagoon from the Caribbean on Barbuda's western side, in places only a few dozen metres wide, running for something over ten kilometres with the lagoon on one side and the open sea on the other. It is reached by boat across the lagoon, which is also how the frigatebird colony in the mangroves is visited. The sand is pink in stretches and there is nothing on it.

What you actually see

  • The sand bar - a strip separating the lagoon from the sea for over ten kilometres.
  • The two waters - the lagoon on one side and the open Caribbean on the other.
  • The pink sand - the shell-tinted stretches along the bar.
  • The boat crossing - the run across the lagoon from Codrington.

When to go

December to April is the dry season and calmest. Hurricanes have breached the bar more than once, most severely in 2017. Boats run on arrangement.

Honest expectations

The 2017 hurricane breached the bar and it has changed shape since; the geography is not fixed. There is no shade or facility. Access is by arranged boat only.

Nearby

Princess Diana Beach is south, and Codrington is across the lagoon.
