The CN Tower is the soaring icon of Toronto, for decades the tallest free-standing structure in the world at 553 metres, rising above the downtown skyline beside Lake Ontario. Its observation decks offer dizzying views over the city, the lake and, on a clear day, the mist of Niagara, with a glass floor to stand on, a revolving restaurant, and for the daring the EdgeWalk around the outside rim.

What you actually see

  • The observation decks - the panoramic views over city and lake.
  • The glass floor - the transparent floor high above the ground.
  • The revolving restaurant - dining with a slowly turning view.
  • The EdgeWalk - the hands-free walk around the outside of the tower.

When to go

Year-round; a clear day gives the best views, so check the weather before going up. Sunset and after dark, when the city lights come on and the tower itself is lit, are especially striking. Book ahead to skip the queues.

Honest expectations

It is a classic city-tower experience, worth it mainly on a clear day, as cloud or haze spoils the view. It is busy and the tickets are not cheap, with the glass floor and EdgeWalk extra. It is a quick visit, best combined with the lakefront and nearby attractions.

Nearby

The lakefront, the Ripley's Aquarium and the Rogers Centre are alongside; the islands are a ferry away.
