Canada's Wonderland

Wonderland opened in 1981 and runs around two hundred attractions including seventeen roller coasters, which is more than any park outside the United States. Leviathan reaches ninety-three metres and about a hundred and forty-eight kilometres an hour; Yukon Striker is a dive coaster with a ninety-degree drop through a loop underwater. The park is built around Wonder Mountain, an artificial peak with a waterfall and a ride cut through the inside of it. A large waterpark is included with admission. It draws around three and a half million visitors a season across a short operating window.

What you actually see

• Leviathan - a 93-metre coaster at around 148 kilometres an hour.
• Yukon Striker - a dive coaster with a vertical drop into an underwater tunnel.
• Wonder Mountain - an artificial peak with a ride running through it.
• The waterpark - a full waterpark included in general admission.

When to go

May to September for full operation, with weekends only in the shoulder months and a Halloween season in October; the park closes for winter. Weekdays outside school holidays have the shortest queues.

Honest expectations

Queues on summer weekends can run two hours for the big coasters without a paid fast pass. Parking is charged on top of admission. The season is short and weather closes rides.
