Sage Mountain National Park

Tortola's spine peaks at Sage Mountain - 523 metres, the territory's roof - where the islands' first national park (established 1964 on land bought from farmers as the conservation movement's local landmark) keeps a pocket of moist forest the drier coasts never knew: mahogany and bulletwood over tree ferns, hummingbirds working the heliconias, and trails looping the summit to lookouts that lay the whole sailing chart below - Jost, the channels, Virgin Gorda's mass, on clear days the outer cays.
