Brewers Bay lies west of Cane Garden Bay on Tortola's north shore, reached by a steep and narrow road down from the ridge, and it is markedly quieter than its neighbour: a curve of sand with a reef close inshore, a couple of beach bars, a campsite and very little else. Behind the beach are the ruins of a sugar works and a rum distillery, with a stone chimney and boiling house walls standing in the scrub.

What you actually see

  • The inshore reef - coral close enough to snorkel from the beach.
  • The sugar works ruins - the chimney and boiling house behind the sand.
  • The quiet - a beach far less used than Cane Garden Bay next door.
  • The campsite - one of the few places to camp on the island.

When to go

December to May is the season and calmest. North swell in winter makes the reef dangerous. Hurricane season runs June to November.

Honest expectations

The road down is steep, narrow and in poor condition. North swell makes swimming dangerous at times. Facilities are minimal.

Nearby

Cane Garden Bay is east, and Sage Mountain is south.
