Krasny Bereg Manor

The manor at Krasny Bereg was built between 1890 and 1893 for Mikhail Gatovsky to a design by Viktor Shreter, and it is an eclectic performance: neo-Gothic gables and pinnacles, Renaissance and Moorish detail, a round tower, decorated brick and terracotta, all on a modest scale so the effect is dense rather than grand. Inside, a sequence of rooms was done in different historical manners, of which several including the Gothic room and the ceiling work have been restored. A landscape park with imported species surrounds the house. It is among the better preserved gentry houses in the country, having escaped the destruction that took most of them.

When to go

May to September for the park; the museum keeps daytime hours, closes on Mondays and reduces in winter. Weekday mornings are quietest.

What to expect

The house is small and the visit takes about two hours. Not all rooms are restored or open. Labelling is in Belarusian and Russian. The village has no facilities.
