The Gomel Palace and Park

Gomel's bluff over the Sozh carries the country's finest palace-and-park composition: the Rumyantsev-Paskevich residence - begun in the 1770s, its neoclassical rotunda and wings now a museum of period halls, weaponry and the families' collections - presides over a park that descends in old-tree avenues to the river, past the Peter-and-Paul cathedral's dome and the Paskevich chapel-tomb's jewelled neo-Russian tilework.
