Pripyatsky National Park

Polesia's marsh country earns its 'Amazon of Europe' billing every April: the Pripyat river spreads across its floodplain in a shallow sea, and the park's oak woods and meadows become a bird staging ground of continental rank - hundreds of thousands of waders and terns refuelling north, watched from towers and flat-bottomed boats gliding between drowned trunks. Summer trades flood for slow channels and white water lilies; the forests keep bison, elk and boar year round; and Turau town adds a millennium of history with its stone crosses that legend says grow from the earth.
