Yeddi Gozel means seven beauties, and the name refers to a sequence of falls stepping up a narrow gorge in the hills above Gabala. Metal stairs and walkways carry you from the car park to the first two, which are the ones almost everyone sees; getting to the higher stages means scrambling up the streambed and is a different proposition. The gorge is tight, wooded and cool, and the water is cold enough that standing under the first fall is a short experience.

What you actually see

  • The lower falls - the first two stages, reached by stairs and walkways from the car park.
  • The gorge - a narrow wooded cleft with the stream running between rock walls.
  • The upper stages - the higher falls, reached only by scrambling up the bed.
  • The pools - cold clear basins below each drop, shallow enough to wade.

When to go

May to October, with the strongest flow in late spring after snowmelt. Summer weekends are busy. The path is closed or unsafe after heavy rain, and in winter the stairs ice up.

Honest expectations

Only the first two falls are accessible to most visitors, and the seven of the name is not something you will count. The stairs are steep and metal, and slippery when wet. Cafés and stalls at the bottom make the approach feel more commercial than the gorge itself.

Nearby

Gabala is twenty minutes down the valley, and Nohur Lake is on the same road.
