Shannon Falls

Shannon Falls drops about three hundred and thirty-five metres down a granite face in a series of steps, making it the third-highest waterfall in British Columbia, and the viewing platform is a flat walk of a few hundred metres from the highway car park, which is why it is one of the most visited waterfalls in the province. The water comes off Mount Habrich. Volume varies enormously: spring snowmelt in May and June sends the full flow over, while by late summer it can thin to ribbons. A trail connects to the Stawamus Chief and the Sea to Sky Gondola base, so the three are usually done together.

When to go

April to July for the strongest flow; by August and September it can be much reduced. The pullout fills early on summer weekends. Winter can freeze parts of the fall.

Things to know

Late summer flow is a fraction of the spring volume. The car park is small and overflows onto the highway shoulder. Climbing beyond the fenced viewpoint is dangerous.
