Mina Clavero

Mina Clavero lies where two rivers meet in the Traslasierra valley on the western side of the Córdoba sierras, and those rivers are the reason it exists as a resort: clear water running over pale rock has carved a series of pools, chutes and small beaches through the town itself, and in summer they are full of families, swimmers and children jumping from the rocks. Beyond the water the town has a long pedestrian street, craft markets and a steady flow of visitors from Córdoba and Buenos Aires. It is also the base for the Traslasierra valley, with the Rocsen museum near Nono, the pilgrimage town of Villa Cura Brochero, and the Altas Cumbres road climbing back east over the mountains.

When to go

December to March for swimming, which is what the town is for; January is extremely busy. Spring and autumn are pleasant and quiet, with cold water. Winter is out of season, with many places closed.

Things to know

In peak summer the town is crowded and noisy, with parking difficult and river spots shoulder to shoulder. Outside summer the main attraction, swimming, is off the table. The rivers can rise fast after storms in the sierras.
