Binga Waterfalls

The Binga falls drop the Keve river over a wide rock lip in Cuanza Sul, a broad curtain rather than a single plunge, set in green country inland from the coast. A hydroelectric station built in the colonial period sits beside them and still operates, which affects the flow. As with most Angolan falls, the season is everything: after the rains the volume is large, and by late in the dry season it can be much reduced.

When to go

March to June, after the rains, is when the falls run strongest. By September and October the flow can be much reduced. Access roads are difficult during the heaviest rains from December to February.

Practical notes

The hydro scheme takes water and the fall is not always at full volume. There are no facilities and no formal viewpoints. The road inland from Sumbe is rough in places.
