Käringsund

Käringsund on Eckerö is a narrow inlet lined with red-painted wooden boathouses standing on stilts over the water, a working fishing harbour that has kept its form because the buildings are still used. A hunting and fishing museum stands beside it covering seal hunting, net fishing and the working life of the archipelago. Boats and a small restaurant operate in the summer season.

When to go

June to August is the season with the museum and restaurant open. Winter closes almost everything. Morning light is best along the boathouses.

Honest expectations

The museum and restaurant are seasonal and closed for most of the year. It is small and half a day covers it. The harbour is a working one and access to some buildings is private.
