Mumbuluma Falls

Mumbuluma drops in two steps on a small river north of Mansa, the upper fall into a shallow basin and the lower into a pool wide enough to swim in, with rock ledges around it that people picnic on. It is modest compared with Lumangwe or Kabwelume but far easier to get to, which makes it the falls people from Mansa actually visit at weekends. There is a campsite and a caretaker. The river here runs through miombo woodland and the walk in from the parking area takes only a few minutes on a clear path.

• The easy access - a short drive and walk from Mansa.

When to go

April to July has the best flow. The river is thin by October. Weekends bring local visitors.

Honest expectations

The falls are small and half an hour covers them. It gets busy at weekends with local groups. Litter around the pool is a recurring problem.
