The Catatumbo Lightning

Where the Catatumbo River meets Lake Maracaibo, the atmosphere runs a standing experiment: warm lake air, mountain winds and methane-rich wetlands collide so reliably that lightning storms ignite on well over half the nights of the year - flickering silently at distance for hours on end, dozens of flashes a minute at peak, a phenomenon bright and faithful enough that colonial sailors used it as a lighthouse.
