When to go
Year-round; to see the Pope, the general audience is usually held on Wednesday mornings when he is in residence, requiring a free ticket booked in advance, and the Angelus blessing on Sundays at noon in St Peter's Square; major religious occasions like Easter and Christmas draw vast crowds. The Swiss Guard can be seen at the Vatican's entrances at various times.
