The Blue Lagoon on eastern Efate is a freshwater pool fed by a spring, coloured a strong blue by dissolved limestone, with trees hanging over it and rope swings rigged from the branches. It runs out to the sea a short way below. The water is cold and deep enough to jump into, and the site has been developed with platforms, a kiosk and changing rooms.

When to go
April to October is the dry season and the water is clearest. Heavy rain clouds the pool and can close it. Weekends and cruise days bring crowds.
Honest expectations
It is busy on cruise days and the swings queue up. An entry fee applies and the site is commercially run. Heavy rain turns the water brown and takes days to clear.
